Description

SMS Messaging Server is an SMS messaging framework to enable sending, receiving and processing SMS- and e-mail messages. The framework is designed support virtually any scenario where low-and high volume SMS messaging is required.

Use SMS Messaging Server in any scenario where SMS
messaging is required:
Radio/television stations can setup their own SMS based
voting system.
Schools can send out SMS notifications to their students
when a teacher is sick. Mobile numbers can be fetched from
Active Directory, MS SQL or any other database.
Sport clubs can setup their own SMS based reservation
system, for instance to reserve tennis courts.
Let mobile users query databases for stock quantities, new
orders or customer information.
Let remote workers update their time sheets.
Emergency Response Centers can offer a service to locals to
report crime by a short message.
IT staff can remotely restart services or reboot servers.

SMS Messaging Server Design

Messages are stored in the central Message Database. The
‘service’ – running in the background – queries the database for
outgoing and sends them out. Incoming messages are received
by the service and stored in the database. The service uses ‘channels’ to send and receive messages. Define a channel for each communication device/protocol. You
can define channels for each GSM modem, SMPP connection,
SMTP server and POP3 server.

Message Database
The Message database plays a central role. Client applications (like the SMS Messaging Server Manager, Web Interface, scripts, custom applications) store outgoing SMS/e-mail messages in the Message Database; the ‘service’ running on the background will take care of sending out those messages. On the other hand, incoming messages received by the ‘service’ are stored in the Message Database so the can be read by the client applications.

Manager

Use the ‘Manager’ application to view messages (based on queries), to manage the database and to manage to make changes to the configuration.
You can make ‘views’ to filter messages. You can launch a
wizard to setup new communication ‘channels’.

Monitor
Use the ‘Monitor’ to see what is happening under the hood. You can monitor all channels and all database activities.

API
The ActiveXperts SMS Messaging Server API defines an interface to its Messages Database, to make it a so called Open System. The API contains functions to filter, read, write, modify and delete messages in the Message Database. A few
scenario's where the API can be used:

To send SMS messages from a 3rd party application.
To implement triggers: as soon as a new message arrives in
the system, the SMS Messaging Server will trigger a
VBScript program. This trigger uses the API for instance to
create a reply message.
To create a custom ASP/ASP.NET based web interface.

Triggers
Incoming SMS- and E-mail messages are processed by so called ‘triggers’. You can define multiple triggers, to allow messages to be processed by multiple scripts.
Each individual trigger is a pair that consists of a condition and an associated VBScript. When the condition is matched, the associated VBScript program is invoked.
